Konkan Vidya Prasarak Mandal is registered as a Public Trust in 1988 by the Honurable founder, Late Shri Shantaram Keshav Gandhi. KVPM is dedicated to carry out work in the areas of Education, Environment and development of villages. The organisation has successfully taken up following projects during the last 25 years
The Jeevan Vikas Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Secondary School was started in 1988, with the building constructed by villagers through "Shramdan". Free education and related educational facilities are provided to students from 8th to the 10th standard. Since 1988, about 1000+ students have received quality education in this school. School has achieved a benchmark of 100% result for last 5 years in SCC board exams.
In the year 2000 old school building was replaced with new building structure. New school building was constructed by the donation given by shri Madhukar Sitaram Bhurke and the school is renamed as the "Madhukar Sitaram Bhurke Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Mangavali". In order to give a state of art education to these village students, all the classrooms in this scool are made digital..
To create a reading culture amongst the students, a respected Advocate from Pune, Late Shri Shantaram Javdekar donated 300 books on various readable topics useful for students.
KVPM provides note books, text books, uniforms, etc. to all needy students. In order to facilitate students coming from long distance and nearby villages, KVPM provides free transport facilities (ST passes) and a school van operates on daily basis as a pick up and drop facility to students in remote and hilly areas of villages. KVPM also conducts seminars on Personal development, English speaking, Career guidance, Medical camps etc. on a regular basis..
KVPM conducts training program and educational tours related to agriculture and Environment. The students and the village folk have together planted Teakwood (Sag), Cashewnut, Akesia, Eucalyptus, and various other types of trees in the precincts of the School. They also grew crops like rice, nachani on a limited scale. This has created lot of awareness about tree plantation and farming, amongst the school children.
KVPM is making efforts to start an agricultural Section in its School .
KVPM has organized a residential seminar on 'Save Sahyadri (Save Western Ghats)'. This seminar was aimed to educate the villagers on the natural wealth of Sahyadri Mountain range and various ways to protect the same. Our school students regularly build bunds on the river to save water.
A Scheme for providing well-balanced and nutritious food (porridge) to the under-fed students has been started. This ensures that these children bear the load of their studies and their education is not adversely affected. It is gratifying to note that the local people very willingly donate food grains for this scheme.
KVPM adopts poor and helpless students under this scheme ocassionally.
In order to improve Environment, Sanitation and health, KVPM has provided a financial help for construction of 250+ toilets in the Mangavli village. This has helped Mangavali village to get 'Nirmal Gram Rashtriya' - National Award in 2009. Village also has received many awards in 'Health, Cleanliness and Environment' category..
Since 1996, people in Mangavali and surrounding villages have planted Mango, Cashew nut and tealwood (Sag) trees on an extensive scale. The saplings were supplied free of charge by the KVPM.
It is our sincere desire and effort to achieve a cohesive and all round rural development through all these schemes. The people from the village have been very enthusiastic in implementing these schemes for which they deserve all praise.
